O Son of God, who didst ascend in glory, save us who sing to Thee, Alleluia!

"O Christ, You have come down from heaven to earth. Being God, You lifted up Adam's race that had been brought down in the prision of Hades. Through your ascension, You raised it up again to the heights of heaven and established it in your company on the Father's throne, for You are merciful and the Lover of Mankind."

(Troparion of the office of the feast)

I like this icon. I love the colors for a change. It is very thought provoking. We have two very beautiful icons in our little chapel at church. I will post them up in a day or so. I just noticed that my church has alot of photos up now on the site and it is a beautiful church and I want to share its lovliness with you who visit me!
Thanks for the icon for Ascension Thursday! Suz

Lost one

O, dear Lost One, I struggle with it too. I guess it boils down to believing there is Something bigger than me in this universe, some purpose greater than my own comfort for my existance, some destiny beyond this earth for my eternity. All I can can know about this Someone is revealed by Him through His church (Holy Tradition meaning Scripture, early Church Fathers, icons, Liturgy, etc.).

Oh, but He is beyond my imaginings, beyond my comprehension, yet so close to me I can barely see Him. This is why I love icons. They look funny, hard to figure our, a little out of focus and proportion. But if you study it, meditate on it, let it speak to your soul, a truth is revealed about the Holy and Immortal One. It is a still quiet voice. And it is calling you, a beloved child of God. Thankyou for stopping here, and come back anytime. Many blessings to you!!
